With a stock and dies and a pipe vice or a threading machine such as a ridgid 300 or 400 or a 12 R or a 65 R depending on the pipe diameter and do not forget the oiler One can always use an Armstrong stock
There are many ways to thread pipe the most popular way is by thread dies of standard pipe but many other ways by using a lathe or cnc machines.
When threading pipe of usually 1/2 - 2" standard pipe threads you must use the right threading oil because other different oils will damage your dies so if you are renting or borrowing a threading machine please make sure you have the right threading oil and the more oil you use while threading the pipe the longer your dies will last.
Simply wrap the tape around the threads. It is very stretchy and will hug the threads. Wrap the tape at least 1 and a quarter times around so it overlaps. You don't have to cut it, simply pull until it breaks. It helps lubricate the threads to make screwing in the new piece easier and provides additional sealing ability to prevent leakes. You can also buy silicone paste to 'paint' on the threads that will do the same thing.
Female Pipe Thread? FPT = Female Pipe Thread MPT = Male Pipe Thread also seen as FIPT and MIPT (female iron pipe thread and male iron pipe thread).
No, it's not standard pipe thread.
National Pipe Tap, the angled self sealing thread of a pipe fitting

With a pipe threader.
They are both the same thread. They are both calling out a British Parallel Pipe thread. Please do not assume that this is the same as the standard North American pipe thread, as it is not close to the same.
60 degrees
noANS 2 - Part of the point of pipe thread compound is to prevent surfaces sticking together.
There are different standards depending on where you are. BSP, which is British Standard Pipe thread, is a fine thread used as an international standard

Yes, it is still a pipe thread. The pipe dope is there to fill in the gaps in the thread. It is impossible to machine the treads close enough in pipe to not need something in the threads to make a seal.
