According to Consumer Reports, TomTom Go 920T is ranked in the top 5 in GPS ratings. Among the competitors, TomTom was the only one with an iPod interface!
I mounted a TomTom inside the compartment that the factory nav would be placed. I used a 1 AAI-NIS from PAC Audio so I could have RCA inputs from the Bose headunit. I also purchased the IPOD connection cable for the TomTom and ran all of the wires behind the console, etc. I am able to have hands free blue tooth phone, IPOD control via TomTom and GPS.

I find tomtom a little more confusing to use than gramin systems are to use. they are pretty difficult to enter information and to find specific locations.
I think most gps systems are quite reliable if you learn how to use them properply. The tomtom use to be the most reliable one and then competinion came out and many are just as good.
I would say yes that you probably do need a TomTom receiver with every TomTom GPS, however to be sure i would maybe go to the TomTom's website and see what it says.

Not at this time, tomtom navigation system is for road navigation only! It is possible to use certain tomtom devices for boating navigation but i wouldn't rely on it, in EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ONLY, and you would have to prepare the charts yourself, alot of work!
