buy an aftermarket harness at LMC truck and connect it to the outside of the fuel sending unit and into the dash fuel gauge. make sure your fuel pump has good ground. 16.95us last I checked.
fuel sending unit broken wire or gauge is bad
the purple wire is the gauge and white and black are ground!
The fuel gauge will no longer give an accurate reading.
are you sure you reconnected the wire to the gauge when you did the fuel pump? also the gauge requires a good ground to the tank. its possible you don't have a good connection. just some thoughts.
A tan/white wire goes from the sending unit to the fuel gauge typically on a (example) 1985 Chevrolet Silverado 305 tbi.
a mechanic told me that the fuel pump has a loose ground wire low fuel to current fuel level over and over again. my 2000 did that
sounds like you have a bad ground wire on frame by the fuel tank. small black wire coming from the fuel tank and screwed to the frame.
Either the sender wire is bad, or the sender inside the fuel tank is bad. Here is how to test it. Ground the wire that runs from the tank. This should pin the gauge all the way to full. If this happens, it is the sending unit. No gauge movement means bad gauge. Remember to turn on the key while testing.
It is the ground wire for the fuel pump. The Red wire is the power wire for the pump. the dark blue is the signal wire for the gauge and the black is the ground for the gauge.
How do you wire a Pigtail for a Fuel Pump on a 97 Chevy Blazer Thank You EVa
Find out what's wrong and replace the broken part. It's either a fuse, the sending unit (in the tank) the gauge (in the dash) or a damaged wire or connector.
A 1990 Jeep Cherokee malfunctioning fuel gauge can be caused by a broken ground wire. The gauge will not function if the fuel float in the fuel tank is broken.
