How do you write a 300 word essay?

Think of breaking it all up.

You should have at least three basic sections of any essay:

1. Introduction - what are you talking about? What question are you asking?
2. Middle - explain the information you need to cover.
3. Conclusion - what are your views and opinions? What is the answer to the question?

It is not that you should write 100 for each. Instead, focus on about 50 for the introduction, 150 for the middle and 100 for the end.

Tips:

If you are short of 300 words:

• Have you covered all the main details and explained them?
• Have you gone into enough depth for each area?
• Did you summarize each point - if so, can you expand them?
• Have you used words like 'hasn't' where you could use 'has not'?

If you are over 300 words:

• Have you written too much for a single point?
• Have you gone into too much depth - is there unneeded pieces of information?
• Have you gone off-track and have you been talking about irrelevant pieces of information?
• Do you have lots of points along with a big introduction and conclusion - can you cut any parts?

Generally:

• Don't start off formally and turn informal - or vice versa.
• Don't be afraid to give and explain your opinions.
• If you are finding it hard to extend or elaborate a piece of information further, have you already done what's necessary?
• 300 words is not that much - most stories you read have that on one or two pages.
• Don't rush at writing it even if you aren't passionate about it - time is there to be used wisely.
• Don't copy your mate - then you don't have any opinionated points and you will feel very guilty.
• It is natural being stuck to start. Beforehand, write basic bullet-points of what you need to include - you can generate sentences from there.

Hope essays don't bother you anymore!
