have a strong beginning

for example when I was writing an essay about obama's successes during his first 100 days of presidency I wrote something like "100 days had passed since the Barrack H. Obama became the president of the United States of America".

A good topic sentence makes a statement about some topic and the rest of the paragraph explains the topic sentence or gives examples of the topic sentence.

For example if this was the topic sentence

There are three living species of Kiwi all of which inhabit New Zealand.

Then this paragraph would probably tell us what the three species are and where they live in NZ.

Choose a topic that is interesting to you - writing is much easier when it is about something you like. Write out a list of questions that you would like to know about the topic - or you can write sentences to which you already know the answer! Pick the one which seems best to you, and make it into a statement, and you have your topic sentence!

Write your topic sentence as a statement you're going to prove. The topic sentence should introduce a thought that the rest of the paragraph proves.
