Once trapped, the combined molecules eventually settle to the floor or remain dormant in your sofa. I do not know the half-life of the 'febreze molecule', but that would determine when the odourous molecules could become airborne again. It does not destroy the molecules causing the odour and therefore is more of a temporary patch than a solution to bad smells.
