Scrooge sees a boy passing by his home and gets the child to go

and buy the "Prize Goose" that is on display at the local Poulterer's.

He then sends the Goose to the Cratchit's by way of the Poulterer, and remains anonymous as a result. Because of the distance he even paid for a cab.

Earlier in the book Scrooge had said, "if the poor are going to die, then they had better do it and decrease the surplus population." Scrooge know feels bad about saying this because at this house he finds out that tiny tim will die. Mabey this will help change Scrooges cold-hearted personality.
