How does Shakespeare present Macbeth as brave and valiant before you meet him?

Answer:
Macbeth, as you probably know is a Thane (Lord) under King Duncan of Scotland. Basically, Macbeth and his close friend Banquo defeat a whole army opposing the King at the beginning of the play, and Macbeth is honoured by King Duncan by being made Thane of not only Glamis (already his land) but of Cawdor as well.
By displaying Macbeth as this brave and loyal warrior, Shakespeare manages to gain our sympathies for him at the beginning of the play - and shows us that before the idea of becoming King was put into his head by the witches, he was actually a fine and faithful subject.
