There is no common "personality" of heroin users. You can look for signs such as constricted pupils, track marks (scars from injections), ect....but heroin users vary in every way possible. Rich, poor, young, old, male, female....ect.

To try and pigeonhole the "type" of person who uses is ignorant and useless. i have been a IV (intra veinious) user for ten years and you could not pick me out of a crowd. I look like any other joe on the street. In short you can look for signs that a person is using or under the influence, but heroin is a drug that spans all Demographics, race, age, sex, sexual preference, it is typically portrayed as the down and out homeless persons drug but i promise you right now somewhere in the world a homeless woman is doing heroin under and off-ramp and a rich politician is stuffing his veins with the same stuff in a spare bedroom in his multimillion dollar home in a gated community, the only difference is that tomorrow that politician is going to rail to his constituents about how drugs are destroying our community. Take it from me, I'm a bartender I sell the last legal drug in the USA and on a daily basis see liquor wine and beer do just as much if not more damage than any of the so called "illegal" drugs. Much with everything in life, moderation is the key. The only difference is that a gram of Heroin will get you 10 to 20 years in prison. But a case of wine will get you into a nice party.

I have a relative that is addicted to heroin. I always find needles in his room. We have been living together for about 6 months now and I'm ready for him to get out. When he does not have the drug he starts to sweat and claims that his stomach is hurting. He has called the ambulance to take him to the hospital about 30 times. He does this so the doctors will give him medication to ease his withdrawl symptoms. We are behind on rent and his only focus is to get more heroin, rather than pay the rent up to date. Heroin makes a person unbearable to be around, especially when they don't have the drug. I guess its safe to say that a heroin addict acts like your worse enmy, from my experience with living with one.

Very mellow, if they take a lot they can get a "nod," where they start nodding their head as if very tired.

Usually they start talking very softly and with a slight slur.
