a hippo will defend its self by charging ar using is powerful jaws to ram a anouther hippo or boat. the hippo will only charge when feels threatend and/or to protect her baby. the hippo will also play fight. younger hippos will do it to practice untile he is old enouh to mate. the alfa hippo will also defend his herd from anouther hippo if neccesarie. that is why you see alot of hippos with scares.
