How does a human zygote become an embryo?

Answer:
During a process called fertilization, an egg is penetrated by a sperm cell, and the haploid genetic information of both male and female gametes combines. The result of this process is a diploid cell called a Zygote. A zygote cell receives half chromosomes from its female parent and half from it's male parent. The zygote then undergoes mitosis and cell division and developes into an Embryo.
