It grows via cellular division of cells in it's component tissues in specific areas according to it's genetic makeup. In species with skeletons, growth is concentrated primarily at the tips of bones

Through cell division, or mitosis. 1 cell creates 2, 2 creates 4, 4 creates 8. It may not seem much, but think of a trillion cells doing this.
