How does a president elect get a mandate?

Answer:
mandate means that he gets ordered by the people to do something... in this sense, it means that the president, when elected by a large majority of the population, is ordered by the people to do what they expect him to do. More to the point, he has a large backing of the voting public so he can do whatever he believes is right to do.
