Normal resting heart rate

The chart below shows the normal range of a resting heart rate (pulse rate after resting 10 minutes) in beats per minute, according to age. Many things can cause changes in your normal heart rate, including your age, activity level, and the time of day.

Resting heart rate Age or fitness level Beats per minute (bpm)

Babies to age 1:

100-160

Children ages 1 to 10:

60-140

Children ages 11 to 17:

60-100

Adults:

60-100

Well-conditioned athletes:

40-60

Your pulse usually has a strong steady or regular rhythm. Your blood vessel should feel soft. An occasional pause or extra beat is normal. Normally, your heart rate will speed up a little when you breathe deeply. You can check this normal change in your pulse rate by changing your breathing pattern while taking your pulse

Most pulse charts are based on age starting around the age of 20. These charts show how the heart reacts differently based on your physical activity and age and explains the different percentiles of how fast your heart should be beating.

yes because adults have less energy than kids . and kids have more energy and they have more heart rates. like 222. do any activity and put you finger in your pulse (in the neck) and multiply it by 2 or 3.

Yes. Children have much higher heart rates than teenagers or adults. As a rule of thumb, in teens and adults a heart rate of 100 is considered tachycardia (an abnormal finding), while in children it is considered normal.

Also the maximum heart rate is different in different ages. A good shortcut for this is 220 - age. So a person who is 20 would have a maximum heart rate of 200, while a person who is 30 would have a maximum heart rate of 190.

In general, the rest heart rate, or pulse, of a healthy individual does not change significantly with age. What changes is the maximum safe heart rate during exertion, such as exercise. As we get older, our hearts become less able of working at elevated capacities, and therefore the maximum safe heart rate decreases as a person's age increases.

Naturally, people age. The amount of work you need to do to maintain a healthy work rate for the heart goes down as you age. The recommended heart rate maximum for exercise charts mean that most people won't work their heart too hard while exercising. The formula used corrects a flat rate with age, usually taking your age-related maximum heart rate and taking away your age to obtain a maximum heart rate you should target for fitness and health. Charts are helpful because the math is done for you.

What is known to correlate most strongly with reduced risk of deaths from heart disease?

People who exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and manage stress are less likely to have heart disease. A healthy lifestyle will offset internal risk factors such as age, gender, family history, and ethnicity. Many ethnic groups, including African Americans, have an increased risk of heart disease.

Is it possible for your heart to go into fibrillation if you exceed your maximal heart rate?

Your maximal heart rate is 220 - MINUS your age. In most human their MHR is about 200- 220 BPM. Maximal heart rate is the highest number of times per minuet that you heart could contract during maximal physical exersion. It is unlikely for your heart to go into Fibrillation at heart rates of 200 - 250 BPM. Fibrillation occurs at heart rates of 300- 600 BPM and can be causes by Heart disease Electrical shock Heart attacks Heart Arrhythmia

Can a boy's heart beat faster than a girl'S HEART?

Typically, males have lower heart rates then females of comparable condition (similar age, weight, fitness, etc.) See the related links for charts related to resting heart rates by age, gender, and fitness.

How and why does aging affect the maximal heart rate?

Young children generally have a maximal heart rate approaching 220 beats per minute. This maximal rate falls throughout life. By age 60 maximal heart rate in a group of 100 men will average about 160 beats per minute. This fall in heart rate seems to be a linear process so that maximal heart rate can be estimated by the formula 220- AGE. This is an ESTIMATE, however. If we actually measure the maximal heart rates of those same 100 men during a maximal exercise test we would probably see a range of heart rates between 140 and 180. There is no strong evidence to suggest that training influences the decline in maximal heart rate. This reduction appears to be due to alterations in the cardiac electrical conduction system (SA node and Bundle of His), as well as down regulation of beta-1 receptors, which decreases the heart's sensitivity to catecholamine stimulation.

How is crude death rate different from age specific death rate?

Age-adjusted rates (R′) are used to compare relative mortality risks among groups and over time. They were computed by the direct method---that is, by applying age-specific death rates to the U.S. standard population age distribution .
