Quite often we "invite" germs that cause illness into our body by lack of hand washing. A person with the flu, sneezes (using hand to block spray) then grabs a door knob. Everyone walking thru that door behind him - touching the knob, then touching their own face, eyes or nose or putting food in their mouth (for however long the germ lives outside of the hosts body) may have just been infected.

Most people with a healthy immune system may not catch the flu in that instance, but children, elderly people or anyone with a compromised immune system has a better than average chance of getting sick - without ever meeting their primary host.

Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection, commonly found in young children, it is spread by the fluid from the weeping sores that appear and form a yellow crust. It can be found anywhere the child scratches after touching the sore. This needs antibiotic ointment to heal and can spread to anyone who comes in contact with it. Hand washing is a must and using clean single use applicators (like a QTip) when medicating.

Meningitis is a viral or bacterial infection that can go thru a group of teenagers - sharing straws, eating off of food a person who has been infected but is not yet symptomatic has bitten into.

Bacterial meningitis is spread through the exchange of respiratory fluids - for example, through coughing, sneezing, kissing or using something the infected person just coughed on.

Viral meningitis is spread person to person through fecal contamination - such as by someone who uses the toilet and does not wash her/his hands well afterward.

Mononucleosis AKA the kissing disease that teens are susceptible to. Primary host walking around not yet aware he is sick or maybe he is a carrier who never catches the virus himself. Several of his friends (not just ones he was kissing) become ill after spending time together. (Sharing food, drinks, utensils & straws of the infected person)

STDs are transferred by shared body fluids or an active sore touching skin to skin (HPV). The infected person has unprotected sex. Due to the inability to see small breaks in the skin the vagina or anus is the perfect receptacle for infected semen to enter the blood stream of an unsuspecting partner.

Strep Infections like strep throat sweep thru day care centers and preschools with lightening speed by coughing, sneezing and not using good hand washing techniques.

Is prostate cancer an infectious disease?

Prostate cancer is not considered an infectious disease. Unlike infections caused by bacteria, viruses, or other pathogens that can be transmitted from person to person, prostate cancer is a type of cancer that develops within the prostate gland due to the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. While infectious agents such as viruses or bacteria have been implicated in the development of some cancers, there is currently no strong evidence to suggest that prostate cancer is caused by an infectious agent. The majority of prostate cancers are thought to result from a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, rather than infectious causes. However, certain infections and inflammation of the prostate gland, such as chronic prostatitis or sexually transmitted infections, may be associated with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer in some cases. Chronic inflammation in the prostate gland has been hypothesized to contribute to the development and progression of prostate cancer, although the exact mechanisms are not fully understood. Overall, while infections and inflammation may play a role in some cases, prostate cancer is primarily considered a non-infectious disease driven by genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. Early detection through regular screening and consultation with a healthcare professional remain critical for managing prostate cancer risk and detecting the disease in its early stages.
