How does carbon dioxide get into the lungs to be exhaled?

Also: Carbon dioxide is produced in the cells through cellular respiration. It then diffuses into the blood and travels to the lungs where it diffuses into the aveoli space, which is in the lungs. It then gets exhaled out of the body. Source: IB biology
