How does false-memory syndrome happen?

Answer:

It doesn't. The term was invented by a group of parents who are in denial of what in the overwhelming majority of all cases (90%+) are true accusations of child abuse by their own children.

There is no scientific reason to believe such a syndrome exists and most of the scientific community in the field reject the validity of it.
