Jaundice is a sign of a malfunctioning liver. It cannot be purged; the liver problem must be dealt with. The two most common causes of liver disease are drinking alcohol and hepatitis. People with liver problems should not drink alcohol at all. It can eventually lead to need for a liver transplant to avoid death.

Does jaundice spread if you touch the hand of person having disease?

True jaundice comes from the reddish-yellow bile salt, bilirubin. Unusually high concentrations of this compound in the body cause yellowing, or jaundice. Jaundice is typically diagnostic of liver failure. As such, jaundice itself does not spread by touch. However, if an infectious disease has attacked the liver and thus is the root cause of the jaundice, that infection may be transmissible by touch.

Does jaundice spread ifinfected person is close to other person?

No, jaundice is not contagious. Jaundice is a result of metabolic interruption, often caused by an obstruction of the bile ducts. Because the bile cannot leave the body naturally (in your faeces), it enters the blood stream and turns you yellow. A common cause of jaundice is gallstones, so jaundice is no more contagious than gallstones!
