How do you deep-etch in Adobe Photoshop?

I don't know much but this may help - you can use the magic wand tool that will select a certain amount of colours e.g if you have a flower with a black background you use the magic wand on the black, it will select the black areas and you can delete it, or the pen tool for more precise tracing around objects. Then you have to do something with the "path" you've made with the pen tool....but I'm not totally sure. I hope this helps get things started!
