Refraction occurs because waves move at different speeds in different bodies. Because a wave hits the other medium at an angle, part of the wave changes speed earlier than the rest, turning the waves. this is most obvious with light waves in water, but it happens with all types of waves in any change of medium.

Refraction of light occurs when it passes from one transparent medium to another one of a different optical density.

The major refracting interfaces in the eye are-

  1. air-cornea
  2. aqueous humour-lens
  3. lens-vitrous humour

When light leaves a medium, and enters a less dense or more dense medium, it is refracted, because the speed of light changes.

Example: Light travelling in air moves at a speed of 3.0 x 108 metres per second. If the light is made to pass through water, which is denser than air, the speed of light slows down, and as a result it is refracted.

No refraction can occur either way!

For refraction to occur in a wave the wave must?

For refraction to occur in a wave, the wave must enter a new medium at an angle.

Does refraction occur for both sound and light waves?

Refraction occurs for any waves, where there's a change in the medium.

What has to be different to allow refraction to occur?

The density. Refraction occurs at the boundary between two media of differing densities, such as air and water.

Does refraction occur when light passes through a piece of glass?

Yes, it is true.

How does refraction occur in water?

It is because of the change in velocity of light in two different media.

Would refraction still occur if light did not change speed when passing from medium to another?

No

What is the difference between refraction and transmission?

the difference is transmission occur in same medium, but refraction occurs whn 2 medias are there, its actually bending of light at interface of 2 medias

Which two interaction will occur to the light ray when you move it left to right?

one is refraction i can assure you that.

What is the definition of critical angle?

The definition of critical angle is the angle of incidence that refraction can still occur.

Why refraction does not occur in opaque medium?

Refraction is the bending of the rays of light when it travels from one medium to another... For refraction to occur there should be some difference in the refractive index of the materials.... Refraction can also occur in Opaque medium........
