Some plants will die and others will live of it

AnswerWhat happens is that the higher concentration of salt in the soil outside of the plant cells causes water to move outside of the cells to try and equalize the concentration. Root cells die and, if bad enough, the plant will die. The damage gives the plant a burnt look- often on the leaf edges first.

The same thing happens with too much of any mineral.

Some types of plants can tolerate higher levels of salt and not be damaged. Their cells have a high concentration of salt already in them, so the water doesn't move out. Others, such as beans, have a lower concentration than most and are very sensitive to the presence of salt.

huh? #2? that's easy i knew that!!!
Salt water on plants can either harm or become fatal depending on the concentrations. When salt water goes into the soil, it will block the nutrients from reaching the plants and cause them to die.

Salt or salt water added to plants upsets the natural balance of minerals (and the pH) of the soil.

The resulting high concentrations of salt in the soil cause water flow to actually reverse direction (because of osmotic potential), in effect the water and dissolved minerals in the roots of the plants move out of the plant and into the soil - instead of the other way around.

The immediate effects are wilting due to lack of water, the leaching of minerals from the leaves through the roots and back into the soil causes a characteristic yellowing of the basal leaves of the plant (as chlorophyll production halts and the more mobile minerals "drain" from the plant.

Some plants such as halophytes are able to metabolise salt and are not prone the effects of high salt concentrations. These are plants that are normally found in sandy beach areas, salt flats and certain desert envronments.

By adding salt to a plants intake of water, there becomes a higher concentration of salt outside of each plant cell than there is inside of them, and this is called a hypertonic solution. The cell naturally wants to have the same concentration of salt outside the cell than there is inside it, so osmosis happens, and the water is sucked out of the central vacuole of the cell, causing the cell to shrink and die.

A plants cells' dying effectively causes the plant to wither, turn grey and in some cases die.

Salt water effects plants because the salt absorbs the water collected in the vacuoles of the plant, causing them to lose water. The vacuole takes up most of the plant cell, so when it is only partially full, the cell wall stays rigid, but the cell is mostly empty, so it wilts.

I guess it would depend on the plants and how much salt is to be used. Accually SALT is a form of fertilizer. Because of the Magnesium and Sulphur content, it can be added to water or used straight by broudcasting applications to stimulate green growth. Next time you are in the grocery store, pick up some Epsom Salt and check out the back of the bag. Salt is used in various ways and can be a natural fix for what might be hurting you.

because

Salt affects the growth of many plants, but not all Some root cells of plants that do not tolerate salt may die, and if bad enough the plant will die. The damage gives the plant a burnt look, often on the leaf edges first. Some types of plants, such as mangrove trees, can tolerate higher levels of salt and not be damaged. Their cells have a high concentration of salt already in them so the water doesn't move out. Some even separate salt from the water and excrete it through their leaves, roots, and branches.

Most plants are not tolerent of salt water. The mangrove "tree" actually grows in salt water. Asparagus displays a tolerance of water to the degree it can be watered with a salt water solution that kills weeds surrounding it.
it help to teach the plants how to *uck
on normal plants, salt water would result in reverse-osmosis in the soil, drawing the nutrients from the plant (instead of allowing them to be drawn into the plant). this would result in water not being able to be absorbed, the plant wilting, yellowing and eventually dying.

of course there are coastal plants that are adapted to live in salty or saline conditions and have various methods to combat this problem

It mixes with water stored in plant and changes its pH as a result the plant dies.,

Too much salt in a plant causes the cells in the plant to shrink through osmosis, which causes cell death.

Will salt have the most effect on plant growth?

The effect that salt has on plants is that it doesn't stimulate the growth cycle. Controlled (pure water) on the other hand makes plants grow faster than watering it with salt water.

Yes. In very small amounts.Sodium chloride is salt, applied at about 1 part to 1,000 salt to soil it can have a slight fertilising effect, but used at 1lb to a gallon of water it is a weedkiller.
