After the bolt is removed from the gun using prior instructions about bolt removal,you will first drive out the pin that you see going through the side of the rear part of the bolt.After the pin is removed,pull the bolt apart,you will be pulling against an internal spring.When you see enough of the rod where the front and rear bolt portions are coming apart clamp,not too tightly a small pair of vice grips onto the exposed rod.Now clamp a pair of vice grips onto the rear of the bolt on the knurled portion.Rock both vice grips opposite directions while pulling bolt apart and rod will come out of rear bolt portion.Now you are left with the front bolt portion which contains a special nut,a spring,and a firing pin.If you look carefully around the rod as in enters the front bolt portion you will notice a tiny notch on each side.You will have to make a tool that resembles a screwdriver with a piece of steel tubing for a shaft with two prongs on it to engage the two notches on the special nut.Unscrew the nut and the nut,rod and spring will come out.Now to remove the firing pin,drive in the tiny pin that holds it in place,or what I do is drive the firing pin into the bolt from the front and this shears the very tiny pin and I replace it with another.Use a finishing nail or what ever works for you.I used a tool mechanics used to remove the points on old Chevrolet distributors and modified it with a dremel tool to use on the special nut.

Raise the bolt to the unlocked position, then pull the trigger while removing the bolt. That makes no sense. The Model 60 is a semiautomatic firearm, not a bolt-action. The old style Model 60 used the operating handle as a bolt hold-open. Pull the bolt about 3/4 way to the rear and push in on the bolt handle to lock it open. Pull the bolt handle back out and the bolt will be released to run forward. Newer Model 60's have a bolt release lever that extends down through the trigger guard.

How do you remove the bolt on a Cooey Model 60 22 caliber rifle?
First, verify that the rifle in unloaded by checking the chamber, breach face and magazine. Next remove the barrel/action from the stock by unscrewing the knurled nut on the bottom of the stock. On the similar model 600 Cooey a slotted screw was used instead of the knurled nut. On the bottom of the action there is a threaded rod with a nut on it. Using the proper size wrench loosen this nut and unscrew the threaded rod until the tube magazine drops down enough to disengage from the bottom of the rifles bolt. pull the bolt to the rear (it will go back further than normal at this point) and then pull the trigger and keep it to the rear while withdrawing the bolt from the rifle. Reassembly is the reverse of the above, taking care not to screw the threaded rod in too far or it will keep the tube magazine from moving back and forth as it should. Hope this helps! P.E. Islander
