How does the myth of Demeter and Persephone explain the change of the seasons?

Answer:
Demeter was the Goddess of the Harvest, Persephone was her daughter. One day, while picking apples, Hades (God of the Underworld) kidnapped Persephone while Demeter wasn't looking. This made Demeter very sad, and all crops died and whatnot. When Persephone was returned to Demeter, everything began to grow and such. Demeter and Hades made a deal; Hades would have Persephone for three months, Demeter would have her another three, and six months was granted to Persephone to do what she pleased.
