Years ago, Roman Catholics belived that Limbo meant the place between heaven and hell, the same way the journey from Afrika which is like heaven for the slaves but their new homes are compared to hell because they will be whiped and worked till death. The journey from their home town to the plantions is the very middle part of their lives which is the same as being in the middle of heaven and hell to the slaves.
Also the Limbo dance was created by the slaves. Basicly the Limbo dance was invented by the slaves at the time; they invented this dance to keep themselves fit from the confined spaces.
Also the stick which you go under is very important and holds a double meaning. Firstly the stick obiously is the stick they use to do the dance with but on a deeper level it also means the stick that the workers used to beat the slaves with.
Also the poem its self has been set out to show the dance in the way the rhythm goes.
