pollination may be self pollination or cross pollination. in self pollination, the pollen grains of the flower falls on the ovary. it occurs in bisexual flowers.

in cross pollination, the pollen grains of one flower reaches the ovary of another flower through air, or insects or water. thus the reached pollen grain produces a pollen tube into which the male gamete enter. it reaches the ovule and fertilize with it to produce a diploid zygote.

The insect visits a flower to collect nectar. The plant's anthers are positioned in such a way the insect must brush up to them in order to do so, so pollen gets stuck to the insect (especially in hairy insects). The insect is still hungry, since no flower offers enough nectar to satisfy any insect, so it flies along to another flower, where the pollen is deposited on a stamen also positioned in such a way the insect touches it when collecting more nectar. Pollen on a stamen works like sperm and egg - the pollen travels down, futher into the flower, and fertilizes it. Later, seeds are formed. Sometimes it is in fruit.

Bumblebees often cheat this. They brush the pollen off their bodies and store it on their legs in special pollen 'baskets' so that they can take it home and feed it to their young!
