How does the surface affect the bounce of a tennis ball?

Answer:
There are 3 kinds of tennis surfaces. Clay\Hard\Grass

Clay Courts : This is a slow court and hence ball bounces high .
Reason : Clay exerts a lot of friction against the ball's horizontal movement and hence the ball bounces high.

Hard\Grass: These are fast courts.
Reason: Less friction is exerted against the ball's horizontal movement and hence the ball bounces less. It is difficult to return slices in these courts. Technically Grass bounces less than hard.

To understand the bounce: imagine what would happen when you CUT the ball using a rough surface(table tennis bat) vs a piece of glass. The result is obvious ; TT bat bounces the ball higher than glass.
