Yes, the law of energy does apply here as well. Power is converted (and removed) from the atmosphere and added into our electrical grid.

New report are showing that wind turbines are leaving localized warming under the turbines for this very reason. High Altitude wind generation has the concern of possibly changing climate through the reduction of energy in the upper air streams as well. Proponents of wind claim that the energy consumed will be too tiny to be noticed.
