How efficient is a kettle?

Answer:

Very - probably well over 90%.

An electric kettle is very efficient, especially if the body is made from plastic rather than metal; almost all of the electrical energy used goes into heating the contents rather than the container. A metal bodied kettle used on a gas stove would be significantly less efficient.
