How expensive is TiVo?

The last I checked, the hardware itself is about $200 or $300, plus they force you to sign up for their monthly service. That's another $10 or $20 a month, which is really quite ridiculous. All it is is a program guide. It's why I didn't buy one.

  • pay a lower price for the TiVo box, and then pay a monthly fee, or
  • can pay a higher ''lifetime'' fee for the TiVo box, which includes monthly fees for
    • as long as you own the Tivo, or
    • as long as the Tivo company is in business.
