∙ 14y agoFor some groups, useful genealogy records go back one one or two centuries. For many groups some records useful for genealogy may go back as much as a thousand years. For a very small number of groups - mostly in the region of East Asia - some records may go back further than that.
The oldest documented genealogy is that of the Chinese scholar known in the west as Confucius, who lived around 500 BCE and whose male descendants are documented to the current day.
