Several different air rifles use the .177 caliber pellet. Each different model rifle can propel the pellet a different distance depending on the power plant that the rifle uses. .177 caliber pellets also come in different weights, this also has an effect on how far the pellet will travel. A PCP air rifles (PerCharged Pneumatic) that use a Scuba tank to charge them to 3000 PSI can obviously out distance a C02 charged rifle in propelling a pellet. So you can expect a pellet to travel anywhere from a few hundred feet to over a 1/4 mile with ease. Depending on the rifle used.

What does a 177 caliber air rifle shoot?

It depends on the air rifle. All 177 air pistols and rifles fire 177 ammo. Some will fire, only pellets. Some can only fire, BB's. But, some can shoot both. And. Brake barrel air weapons can fire, special darts. But, DON'T, fire darts through a rifled barrel. You can do it but it can damage it. Only through a smooth bore barrel. When in doubt, check with the maker of YOUR gun.

Can you shoot bb's in a 177 cal pellet gun?

No,because bb's are a standard .22 caliber;witch means a .177 caliber rifle would have to have a .177 caliber bb.I don't believe any company would make the bb any smaller,do to supply and demand reasons of cost to produce one.~Jason Actually Jason, the diameter of BB's, is .175,, this is to allow the projectile to fit "loosely" enough in the barrel so as to not jam. Most .177 cal air rifles WILL NOT shoot BB's. ^^Frank
