It depends on how fast the dog is running behind it
According to National Geographic, the basilisk lizard digs a shallow trench to lay her eggs. The eggs are covered with dirt and left to hatch on their own. Hatchlings are born being able to run, climb, and swim.
There is a lizard, the Brown Basilisk, which does go by the name "Jesus lizard" because it is able to run across the surface of water for short lengths of time. See link for photos and video.
The basilisk lizard (Corytophanidae) uses its tongue and can grab prey in its jaws. The lizards feed on insects, flowers, and smaller vertebrates such as small snakes, birds, and fish.
Monitor lizards eat water snakes in addition to those they feed on various kinds of animal matter, including eggs, rats, frogs, and decaying meat. The larger species will attack small deer and pigs. They often tear the prey with claws and teeth, but generally swallow it whole or in large chunks.
a basilisk lizard
Not sure, but it can run on water.
They run very fast on the water, so they don't sink. If you slap your hand down really hard in the pool, it hurts. This is because the water is hard if you hit it hard. So when the lizard runs, its like his feet slap the water and make it hard, and before it turns soft again he moves his foot. Update The Basilisk Lizard actually lifts his feet from its toes first to help in run on water and moves fast.

The lizard you speak of is called the 'Common Basilisk' from the rain forests of South America. He is called the 'Jesus Christ Lizard' because of his ability to walk (or run) on water(Matthew 14:25-27)
