When a fin whale calf is born it is 19.5-21 ft (6-6.5 m) in length and 4,000-6,000 (1,800-2,700 kg). When it is weaned 6-8 months later, it is 36-39 ft (11-12 m) and 14-16 tons. During this span it gains an inch in length and 125 lbs (50 kg) a day.
