to be fully grown it takes about 5 years. For one foot, well, you do the math

Who ever wrote the above knows nothing of oaks. They very wildly and much depends on the acorn's ability to set down a deep tap root. There are NO oaks that grow to fully grown (60-100 feet) in five years. An average moderate rate of growth is just over two feet a year, and that would take 10-15 years to get a nice sized tree.

I have BS in Ornamental Horticulture. The answer above is plain wrong.

An Oak tree seed (also known as an acorn) takes about 6 -> 18 months to mature.(do you mean ripen?)

How long they will live will depend a lot on the type of Oak, area of growth and amount of resources available.

The oldest English Oak is about 1,500 years old.

An acorn can become a sapling in the time stated above, but a mature tree takes decades.

It really depends on what type of oak tree. For instance, a water oak grows very quickly, but it is prone to breakage and limbs dropping. A live oak grows much slower, but it is a stronger tree and gets to be much older.

There are approximately 600 extant species of oaks which grow differently one from another. English Oak is a large deciduous tree and grows up to 20-40 m tall, not producing acorns until it is 40 years old. Oak tree growth is particularly rapid in youth but gradually slows at around 120 years. Oaks can live for hundreds of years and actually shorten as the get to a great age to protect themselves.

Therefore, at least for the English Oak species you could regard maturity as being 40 (when they produces acorns) or 120 when it slows growth. However the wood from an English Oak is not ready to harvest until the tree is at least 150 years old.

Planting an Oak tree is an act of faith and a gift to future generations.
