Optical fiber works using the principle of reflection of light. The material used in Optical fibers are such that it can reflect almost 100% of the light. It is called as Total Internal Reflection. Light rays are passed through the optical fibers and the rays are reflected internally thousands of times to reach the other end of the fiber.

NB please note that in some cases, the spelling FIBRE is used, this is the same thing.
