well first, you need to be friends. you can't expect someone to go out with you if you don't really know each other that well. unless you have classes with them, that might be difficult. but it could be worth it so just get up and talk to them.
make sure you get eye contact regularly. when you pass by look into their eyes quickly, then when they look back maybe look at something else.

smile!! that's just the simplest way to show appreciation and that you like said person. but just really, be yourself around him. if you don't like some things he likes, maybe try liking them? or just see how much you have in common.

don't change all yourself just for a potential date, if they were worth it they'd like you for who you were.
