Samba's greatest influence on Western music is quite possibly the fusion of "latin jazz". As the name suggests, latin jazz is a blend of latin styles (primarily samba and bossa nova) and jazz music. This blend of samba and jazz was made popular by the music of Chuck Mangione.

Another possible influence of samba on Western music is the increase in the use of polyrhythms in percussion, especially the drumset.
