How has the laws against sex discrimination helped to overcome sexism at the workplace?

Answer:

I don't know that it is ever possible to overcome sexism. The small mind of those people with sexist attitudes isn't going to change. The only thing the laws can do is make these people think twice before doing or saying something overtly sexist. The problem I see with a lot of this is that where ever men and women work together, sex will be present in some form, as thought, attitude, friendly flirting, jokes....a million things that aren't necessarily meant to cause harm. I see too many women who can't handle the testosterone and get offending by everything. The pubic hair on the coke can that made Anita Hill a household name is a good example. The joke may have been a bit crude and not funny, but grow up lady. You can't have a productive work environment if there are so many eggshells to walk on that you can't develop working relationships with the others. You give and take a certain amount of stuff in every work situation. Knowing the difference between that and serious sexism is where some people can blur the line.
