Factories use a lot of power, either in the form of electricity (usually generated by burning fossil fuels) or oil. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, a powerful greenhouse gas which is adding to the levels in the atmosphere. The extra gas holds extra warmth leading to global warming.
