Well if you look around you can see that over the years TV and Video Games have changed greatly in two ways; graphics and variety. The graphics as you can see have gone from 2 dimensions to the greatly detailed and highly complicated 3 dimensions, and the variety has changed to things like the extremely popular shooter games or the pornographic shows.

Early video games had to work with more restrictions, such as less powerful computers. This meant that games had to be incredibly simple (compared to modern standards).
One prime example of this is the game "Space Invaders" in which the enemies gradually speed up, this was originally accidental because the computer the game was being run on, could not process the positions of all enemies fast enough so the game slowed down, and as more were destroyed, it took less time for the program to work everything out so the game sped up to its original speed.
As more and more technical limitations were overcome, games got steadily more impressive, with better graphics, better music and larger worlds.
the removal of limitations also allowed new genres to be explored, as graphics improved games like DOOM appeared, first person shooters.
As storage space increased, the size of games got bigger, open world games began to appear as well as fully 3d rendered games.
The history of video games goes as far back as the 1940s, when in 1947 Thomas T. Goldsmith, Jr. and Estle Ray Mann filed a United States patent request for an invention they described as a "cathode ray tube amusement device." Video gaming would not reach mainstream popularity until the 1970s and 1980s, when arcade video games, gaming consoles and home computer games were introduced to the general public. Since then, video gaming has become a popular form of entertainment and a part of modern culture in most parts of the world. There are currently considered to be eight generations of video game consoles, with the seventh and the eighth concurrently ongoing.
These types of interactive and multiplayer games reached their current extent late in the 1990s with the advent of competing platforms for proprietary games, even as the internet spawned a much larger genre with MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games). The two genres are both represented in the current evolution of online-connected games such as Wii, XBoxLive, and the PlayStation Network.
