A 5'9" female should be about 154 pounds.
There are several height/weight charts available, but they vary sometimes substantially. The following formula provides a more realistic measure of how much someone should weight for their height. This is an average for a medium frame. A larger frame would be slightly higher and a smaller frame would be slightly lower.
Women
Determine your height in inches.
Give yourself 100 pounds (45kg) for the first 60 inches (150 cm) of your height.
Add 5 pounds (0.85 kg) for each additional inch that is over 60 inches.
Example:
I am a 6 foot woman which means that I am 72 inches tall.
100 pounds for the first 60 inches = 12 inches left over.
12 X 5 = 60
100 + 60 = 160
I should weigh about 160 pounds at my height.
Men
Determine your height in inches.
Give yourself 106 pounds (48 kg) for the first 60 inches (150 cm) of your height.
Add 6 pounds (1 kg) for each additional inch that is over 60 inches.
Example:
A 6 foot man is 72 inches tall
106 pounds for the first 60 inches = 12 inches left over
12 X 6 = 72
106 + 72 = 178
He should be about 178 pounds at his height.
This is how I determined the appropriate weight for a female who is 5 feet 9 inches.
A 5'9" female is 69 inches tall
100 pounds for the first 60 inches = 9 inches left over
9 X 6 = 54
100 + 54 = 154
She should be about 154 pounds at her height.
