Timing for the escort ZX2 is obtained by locating top dead center (TDC) on the crankshaft for the #1 cylinder. Once TDC is obtained (usually with a crank locking tool) the cams must be aligned as well. The cams can be aligned by using the slots on the end of the cams nearest the coil pack. When both the crank and the cams are in these positions, timing is set and a new belt can be installed. When installing a new belt it is important to use the correct timing set necessary for the ZX2. 98-99.5 versions used a 3 pulley timing set while the 99.5-03 versions used a 2 pulley timing set. DO NOT try to install the 3rd pulley onto the newer versions otherwise you will experience an extremely short belt life. Also of importance is to ensure that the timing belt tensioner is only set within the timing mark on the tensioner. Any more tension than what the tensioner marks measure will also prematurely wear the belt and cause it to walk off the cams
timing is set on a ZX2 by finding top dead center (TDC) on cylinder number 1 and aligning the cams. Once this is done, properly set the tensioner. TDC can be located by using a crankshaft locking tool. the cams can be aligned by inserting a flat piece of steel into the slot on the ends of the cams opposite the end with the cam gears.
You can set the injector pump timing on a 4HF1 Isuzu engine by adjusting the fuel injection screw. The adjusting screw will restrict the amount of fuel to be injected.
280kb dtlx 1995 model
the two cams must be at 12oclock and the crank must be at 6oclock
MOST STOCK CAMS DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO CAM "DEGREEING" WHEN INSTALLED, SO THE INITIAL TIMING MUST BE DONE WITH A TIMING GUN. ADJUST THE TIMING BY ROTATING THE DISTRIBUTER IN EITHER DIRECTING UNTIL THE DESIRED AMOUNT OF ADVANCE OR RETARD IS ACHIEVED. SOME AFTERMARKET CAMS HAVE SEPERATE KEYWAYS SO YOU CAN ADVANCE OR RETARD THE TIMING BY A FEW DEGREES WHEN YOU INSTALL THE CAM. A GOOD START FOR YOUR ENGINE WOULD BE 8 TO 14 DEGREES OF INITIAL ADVANCE.
Line up your timing marks on the cams and crank (install belt) and it will be in time, Turn the crank manually with a socket and breaker bar a couple revolutions to make sure the marks are still lined up after tighting the belt tension.
93 civic has a timing belt... if its dual overhead cams, it is nessecary to find the timing marks.. set them properly to their marks as well as the crankshaft. once these are properly set slip your timing belt on and then find the mark for your idler pulley.. reinstall everything and drive away
