Rats are highly intelligent and some studies have proved that most rats are smarter then Cats. There was one rat that was placed in a eight armed maze with food in each arm. the rat was able to find all the food and not retrace its steps.
Rats have been known to die of hart break after a partner has died. They can also die of shyness.
This is far more complicated question than it may seem.
The most accurate answer is that a mouse's intelligence is its cognitive (i.e problem solving, learning, memory, awareness, etc.) capacity and capabilities compared to other mice of the same species.
Of course, that probably doesn't answer your question--at least not in the way you meant it. If you meant something closer to, "what is a mouse's IQ?" then the answer is it doesn't have one.
IQ only measures human intelligence, which is completely different from the intelligence of other animals. Currently, there is no real way to accurately compare the intelligence of different species. (Sorry.)
We do know that mice and rats are far more intelligent than we used to think--they are not only capable of solving problems and learning complex concepts (rats have even learned abstract "rules" and applied them to new situations, an ability we previously thought was unique to apes and humans), they're also capable of "metacognition." Metacognition is basically "thinking about thinking," or "awareness of your own thoughts." A recent study proved that rats are able to decide whether to answer a question based on whether or not they know the answer--a big deal for a critter.
Basically, mice are pretty smart, but we can't say for sure how smart. More clever than a turtle, not as brainy as a college student (well, most of them, anyhow).
they are really intelligent. they can sense if predators are near them
The rat symbolizes several things. Some meanings for the rat include hard work, success, cleverness, intelligence, wealth, spirit, wit, and vitality.
A fancy bear hamster. They are known for their very high intelligence. They can also perform tasks. I'd recommend one as a pet.
Mammalian intelligence depends mostly on the folds present in the cortex. The more folded the cortex the smarter. If you compare a rat brain to a human brain, the rats brain will be alot smoother and flatter.
LOL...Actually, the person that asked that question is a moron with limited intelligence....First, the idiot must define "rat" as either an animal or as a metaphor...which dumbo doesnt know how to do....this is clearly an attempt at veiling one's jealosy or fear of this person who has yet to be identified.
