Comedies were made to entertain people, to make them forget their worries and not think. A lot of politicians used comedies for entertaining people so they can do whatever they want. Comedies were used only for laugh and fun. Tragedies wanted to make people think and wonder about apsolutly everything.
Some people say that whether you prefer comedies or tragedies define you as a peron. So when the comedies reached their top popularity Greek society was blunted and when tragedies reached their top popularity people thought about everything a lot deeper. The goal of aristocrats was to make people watch comedies, so they wouldn't pay attention.
Will Greek society think or not depended on what the writters have been writing about.
So to sum it up Greek literature determineted what Greeks were thinking.
