The Guru Granth Sahib is treated like an important person because it is respected by all Sikhs. When it is being read it lies on a cushion called a manji and is covered with a rumalla and placed on a platform or stand when not in use. All Sikhs respect the Granth Sahib as they believe that the Guru's wrote it for them to use in the upmost respectful and helpful ways. If the mistreat the Granth Sahib then they are therefore mistreating the Guru's themselves.
