Hugo Chavez is a terrible leader. Here is a list of only a few out of the MANY MANY MANY bad things he has done to f*** Venezuela.
-Rationalizing water and light: He didnt follow through, so small towns like Acarigua go through weeks without water and hours and hours without light, with all the crime
-Students: he is trying to control what students can and cannot do..he has his own university where "chavistas" can attend, but none of them get hired. in 3 years, students trying to be doctors graduate. it takes 2 years to become an engineer. is that really enough training?
-U.S.A: he talks and talks about the U.S., but does he stop selling us oil? no sir.
-Terrorism: he is in "friendly" contact with the guerrilla from Colombia, was in contact with sadam Hussein, and probably osama bil laden.
-crime: it is a proven fact that he has threatened other candidates, such as Rosales in 2007..he threatened to hurt his family, and he has taken part in abductions from other politicians...
i cannot begin to explain what a bad leader this man is. did you know he tried to kill the president of Venezuela back in 1996 or around that time, went to jail, then was released and shortly became president?!!? a president that has been in jail for attempted murder...nice.
It's hard to say, I'm still forming my opinion at the moment as I've only recently started looking into his life and policies. I know that he was a peasant who grew to prominence through the military and had a failed coup d'etat. Then he was sent to a rural village of tribesmen and gained popularity there as well before coming back and becoming the favorite of a general and going town to town on a publicity campaign tour for the presidency, which he won by a majority. He has always campaigned for election when his term is up, though corruption in the Venezuelan government has always been high so who knows who really ever wins an election there. He is popular with the working class and tribesmen and seems to have ushered in more democratic policies, including helping his own people before himself, giving up his presidential salary, plane, and at one point in his presidency sending out 70,000 of his troops to repair roads and hospitals, handing out food and medical supplies at a cost of 113,000,000 dollars.
But crime is still high, reported homicide rates increasing, the justice system corrupt, with only 10% of homicides ending in convictions, and the Colombian drug lords operate with impunity within Venezuelan borders. How much of that is the system that was in place that he's been unable to eradicate and how much of that is his weakness as a leader is a good question for sure.
No. His people tried to recall him, and there's a lot of suspicion that he tampered with the votes. Not many people in Venezuela trust him, and he tries to pick fights with other countries, including the United States, all the time. He also publicly claims hate towards Jews, even though he is a Jew himself.
