One way they are similar is because a chain is made full of metal links. In a food chain your energy is your metal and the links are the animals. The animal eats one animal and gets 10% of its energy. And that is the process of the food chain and the links go on forever until they are all gone for the metal chain, and it goes the same for the food chain
