Because the embryo or fetus can not live on it's own and therefor is a part of the womans body. But there's a difference depending on when you do it. After what I can see only in the USA can you have abortions made up to the very end in certain circumstances. In my opinion and in most countries where abortion is legal, abortion is allowed up to the around the time the baby can be saved. That is the usual criteria.

There's a difference between a born and a unborn. A unborn is not protected by the law and the constitution until they are born or viable.
OpinionThe fact that something is legal does not make it moral. Was/Is slavery not an abuse of human rights simply because it was legal? So murder remains murder no matter who chooses to try and hide behind legalese.

Murder is a legal term. If the law says abortion is legal it can not be murder.
Opinion Abortion is not murder. When people refer to abortion as murder they are speaking from an emotional, and personal moral perspective. However, murder, in law, has specific criteria that set it apart from other means by which people die. Generally, murder is the unlawful killing of another human with malice aforethought, without legal justification or provocation.
It should also be noted that murder can have different connotations depending on the culture where the question is asked. In some parts of the world, daughters can be offered up as victims of honor killings for the sins of their brothers and it is perfectly legal. In some cultures female infants have been left out to die of exposure where male children are favored and it is not unlawful.
- Soldiers are not guilty of murder when they kill the enemy during a just war when abiding by the universally accepted rules of war.
- Executioners are not guilty of murder when they execute a prisoner who has had a fair trial.
- Abortion does not meet the criteria that constitutes murder. In fact, abortion is legal in the Western World. Abortion has been practiced for thousands of years. In addition, a fetus is not considered a person in being.
