Calcite is the mineral form of calcium carbonate and limestone is comprised mainly of the mineral calcite. Lime, a product of cooked calcium carbonate, is the cement used in concrete foundations, sidewalks, and tile grout. Tums, an antacid, is made from calcium carbonate. Lime is also used in cardboard packaging and in glassmaking. Calcite is also used in some cosmetics, dietary supplements, vinyl flooring, drywall compound, paint, plastic piping, and drywall.
