How is heartburn treated?

Answer:

Heartburn treatment

Heartburn is caused by excess stomach acids.

There are many things you can do to treat heartburn or even cure it. Most people get heartburn and they take an antiacid which provides some instant type of relief but in reality heartburn medications don't cure, they just mask the problem.

  • Neutralize the acid (alka-seltzer) or stop production of the acid (pepcid) and you will not have heartburn.
  • The best thing you can do is to start eating smaller/lighter meals and not lay down for at least an hour after eating.
  • Some people take vinegar as it works to replace the lack of acid in your stomach.
  • When you have heart-burn it's a good idea to try some chewable "TUMS" pills or asprins.
  • cut down on caffeine, chocolate, high acid foods, dont eat late at night, drink plenty of water and try to elevate your head some when you sleep.
  • I would recommend Heartburn No More.
  • There are a variety of over the counter medication you can purchase such as Tums. However, sometimes just drinking some milk will work. Tums or Rolaids, Mylanta, Pepto-Bismol.
  • soda crackers or bread. Drinking water will dilute your stomach acid and bring some relief.

If the heartburn is severe and frequent, you should have a doctor check you out.
